Ma Arsenia Peterson was presented the DAISY Award on October 26 in the 5th Floor Telemetry Unit. Arsenia was nominated by a patient who was experiencing a lot of pain and was in need of medication. Arsenia took on the task and called the patient’s primary doctor, but then took matters into her own hands when the doctor could not respond right away. By tracking down the patient’s infectious specialist, Arsenia received an order for the medication. She then sent in an urgent request for. When the medication quickly arrived to the 6th Floor, Arsenia realized that they would not suffice and continued to further assist the patient. The patient commended Arsenia for her tremendous efforts in tracking down the medication and quick thinking in a heartwarming letter:
“Arsenia’s tremendous empathy for her patients is quite evident in her nursing care. She treats her patients like her own family; she always smiles, showing great attentiveness to her patient’s needs. It is this highly remarkable empathy that renders her nursing care nonpareil, thus setting her apart from many very competent good nurses. For Arsenia’s outstanding ‘nursing intelligence’, her comforting empathy for her patients, and her exceptional dedication to her profession, I whole heartedly nominate her for St. Vincent’s DAISY Award and trust you will give her your utmost consideration. Thank you.”
Arsenia continuously goes the extra mile to bring comfort to those around her, always wanting to further assist whenever she can. Not only did she break through obstacles to finish her task, but Arsenia assisted a patient who was on a completely different floor. St. Vincent thanks you for your incredible compassion and admirable actions!
