ST. FRANCIS RECEIVES SPECIAL RECOGNITION FOR SUPPORT OF ORGAN DONATION –St. Francis Medical Center was proud to receive the Bronze Recognition from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources Administration Healthcare Systems Bureau, Division of Transplantation, for its commitment to supporting organ, eye, and tissue donation. The honor was presented by the hospital’s organ donation partner, OneLegacy, and accepted by St. Francis ICU director Gina Dalrymple and ICU RN Grace Owojori, along with President and CEO Eleanor Ramirez and Chief Nursing Officer Derek Drake.
For many years now, St. Francis Medical Center has worked compassionately with patients and families who have chosen organ donation. Since this past January, through the health care team’s support and facilitation in collaboration with One Legacy and patients’ families, 50 organs have been donated to recipient patients in need or to critical research. This includes hearts, lungs, livers, kidneys, pancreases, and intestines. Fifty-one tissues have been donated including bone, skin, blood vessels, and heart valves. St. Francis Medical Center shares this recognition with the organ donors and donor families, and with grateful and humble hearts, the doctors, nurses and staff honor them for their priceless gift of life.
